The Institute for Human Centered Design (IHCD) welcomes the Boston Design Week audience to its new headquarters in the SOWA Art + Design District.  IHCD is an international education and design non-profit committed to advancing the role of design in expanding opportunity and enhancing experience for people of all ages, abilities, and cultures. IHCD’s team of 29 staff and 15 members of the board of directors span the nation.

IHCD meets its mission through an unusual mix of education, technical assistance, consulting, research and interdisciplinary design services. The IHCD team are deep content experts in both accessibility and Inclusive Design. This will be an opportunity to be exposed to ideas and practice, sample recent work, learn about global Inclusive Design trends, and hear stories.  IHCD has been a pioneer and global leader in Universal Design since the mid-1990s.  IHCD has run the New England ADA Center since 1996, one of the 10 federally funded Centers to support voluntary compliance with the ADA.  IHCD’s extensive participatory research generates data to inform design from people with lived experience of functional limitations across the spectrum of age and race/culture.

The day culminates in an interview and book signing with Coco Raynes, the French, Boston-based, award-winning environmental graphics designer.
