At the former Out of Town News Kiosk, Zero Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA 02138
Lesley Art + Design presents IDEAS! sensory + social space at the former Out of Town News Kiosk adjacent to the Harvard Square MBTA station which, for over 60 years, provided commuters an iconic gathering space and an array of newsprint, magazines, candy and miscellaneous merchandise. In partnership with CultureHouse and the City of Cambridge, Lesley Art + Design (Lesley University College of Art and Design) hosts a month of ideas, installations, and experiences informed by architecture, design and social practice.
Students in Lesley Art + Design’s Environmental Design Studio course design a range of platforms for public exhibition, interactive programs and ‘zine culture that further connect an urban campus to the city by engaging residents, commuters, practitioners and educators. Design features include furniture design, retail design, display millwork and lighting that consider the contexts, accessibility, engagement and materiality of public spaces and social commons.
Organized and curated by Lesley Art + Design’s Environmental Design Studio, the Office of Community Engagement, and the Department of Illustration + Visual Narrative.
