Scandinavian Cultural Center:
Screening: The Human Shelter
March 30 @ 1:00pm

206 Waltham Street, Newton, MA 02465

Join us for a screening of Danish filmmaker Boris B. Bertram’s film The Human Shelter. The film explores different people’s ways of creating their homes around the globe. During the film we will travel to some of the world’s extremities concerning climate change, growing megacities and conflict zones – across four continents in nine different countries, throughout the journey asking questions about shelter. Bertram delves into the concept of home. Universally understood but entirely personal.

The Danish Director, Boris Benjamin Bertram, explores the different ways people go about creating their homes around the globe. In a refugee camp outside Mosul, in a shanty town on the lagoon in Lagos, or in six square meters in the mega-city of Tokyo... The exploring director also visits the Sami reindeer herders in the arctic circle, and NASA’s futuristic Mars habitat in Hawaii, USA. It’s a poetic expedition around four continents. An existential film about how we construct and articulate stories about our homes.

The Human Shelter comprises seven chapters. Every chapter has a shelter with a human story and a poetic performance. Every one of these representations pushes the audience to think about what ‘home ’means to them. And to you...
