Considerate use of materials, crafting objects with care, and repairing the world around us are just some of ways that makers apply their knowledge and skills to navigate change.  Through our 2023 Exhibition: Continual Craft, we’ll take a look at the innovations, hurdles, and opportunities within crafts and trades, and foster discussion on the definition of “sustainability” in current practice, in all its forms.

North Bennet Street School (NBSS) trains students for careers in traditional trades that use hand skills in concert with evolving technology, to preserve craft traditions and promote a greater appreciation of craftsmanship. Since 1881, America’s first trade school remains committed to teaching the whole person while fostering individual growth, attention to detail, and technical mastery. The School’s spacious, 64,000-square-foot facility is located in Boston’s historic North End neighborhood, the community in which it was originally founded 140 years ago.
