The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), Celebrates the return of spring with the MFA’s 48th-annua Art In Bloom.  The beloved event has pairs art from the MFA’s collection—from ancient to contemporary—with floral interpretations created by volunteer and professional floral designers. In addition to 45 interpretive arrangements, highlights this year include two master classes with Semia Dunne, founder and president of SEMIA, one the nation’s premier floral enterprises, who has been recognized by as one of the nation’s top floral designers by Martha Stewart Weddings. Designed in 1859 by local architect, Edward Clarke Cabot, the Gibson House is a time capsule of Victorian-era Boston. Join museum curator Meghan Gelardi Holmes for an in-depth exploration of the museum's structural features and innovative mechanical systems reflecting nineteenth-century tastes and technology. If you want to admire the ventilation shaft or think more about how the two separate staircases were designed and used, this is the tour for you!

The Gibson House Museum in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood served as residence to three generations of Gibson family members and their household staff between 1859 and 1954. This tour invites visitors to explore the house and consider issues of class and culture through the stories and objects of the people who lived and worked here. The tour is 45 minutes in length and goes up and down a few flights of stairs.

Rose Standish Nichols: Garden Architect

One of the country’s earliest professional garden designers, Rose Standish Nichols created over 70 gardens. Working at the turn of the 20th Century, she was a pioneering female landscape architect who aimed for “harmonious discord” in her historically inspired designs. She also authored three books on gardens, as well as numerous articles about landscapes and design. The Nichols House Museum, her 1804 townhouse on Beacon Hill, is filled with pieces she collected and created, showcasing her interest in the decorative arts. Tour the home she curated to be a museum, learn about her career, and experience her aesthetic sense.  Read more...
